Quick Tip on Using Lavender Essential Oil

Tuesday, October 14, 2008

Here is a quick tip for using Lavender Essential Oil - Brought to you by the Lavender EO Hubpage I recently created.

When I am feeling a little overwhelmed, depressed, or generally "blue" I like to diffuse some lavender essential oil - usually mixed in my "pick me up" essential oil blend.
Ratio Recipe:
10 drops lavender essential oil
5 drops Ylang Ylang essential oil
5 drops Clary Sage essential oil
1 drop Sandalwood essential oil

While sandalwood is not necessarily a mood lifting essential oil for depression, it IS a very centering and balancing essential oil and will add a lot of body to the other oils in this blend.

All About Tea Tree Essential Oil

Tea Tree or Melaleuca alternifolia, is one of my all-time favorite essential oils. It is definately one of a handful I would ALWAYS keep on hand....especially with children around!

Tea Tree Essential Oil Profile: Properties, Characteristics and Uses of Melaleuca Alternifolia EO - Tea tree oil (Melaleuca alternifolia) is an important essential oil in the field of aromatherapy, despite being a relative newcomer; a universal and easy-to-use oil.

I keep a bottle around the house at all times since you never know when a fire ant will bite, small scratches will appear or other minor skin irritations will happen and tea tree is one of my first go-to oils for a situation like that.

A wonderful, dreamy - relaxing blend

Monday, January 7, 2008

I had a client recently who uses essential oils at her busy corporate office in California and when she came in for a massage while visiting family for the Holidays she had clear ideas about what she wanted for her aromatherapy massage - lavender and sandalwood. I have a blend for relaxation with lavender and tangerine so I used that with just a dab of sandalwood and wow! It was lovely.

Sandalwood alone is a bit strong for my liking - but one or two drops in with about 30 drops of lavender and tangerine really sweetened it up while strengthening the citrus essential oil.

The blend had a supportive, meditative quality to it that was very pleasing. You'll have to try it sometime!

Brianna stepped on a bee yesterday and got stung!

Wednesday, November 14, 2007

My daughter stepped on a bee yesterday and the stinger went right between her little 18 month old toes. My son who turns three tomorrow and has been getting daily "Foot Ah-Sages" (Massages) with Peace and Calming before bed said "Mommy help! Sissy a Foot Ah-Sagge!"

Sure enough - tea tree, lavender and tangerine oils applied directly on the little swollen foot (It took us awhile to get the stinger out becuase of where it was and within 10 minutes both pinky and "ring finger" toes were swollen and puffy-red as well as the balls of the feet of those toes and beyond.). She stopped crying after that first application.

We were leaving to go to the inlaws in another 15 minutes so I reapplied I second dose of the oils and put her socks and shoes on.

Two hours later when we pulled them off to show grandma ALL the redness and puffiness was gone. I was amazed! You can still see the little red dot where the stinger went in but that's the only sign. This was JUST yesterday.

How did my son know she needed a "foot a-sage" to help her? I don't know - but he was right.

P.S. Lavender is strongly active against venom and toxins and great for fire ant bites too. Citrus oils like lemon and tangerine are great as well and of course, tea tree oil is antibacterial and antimicrobial. Together they were the perfect "anti venom" blend for this situation and helped the inflammation go down faster than I expected.

Sleeping Soundly Without Prescription Meds

So today I got rave reviews from another customer who recieved the "Sweet Dreams" soothing sleep lotion as a gift from a friend. She says not only has it helped her sleep better but it has really helped her husband sleep better also. She used it about a week before he figured out how well it was working for her and started using it himself.

She said, "He puts it on right before he goes to bed because it starts to work so quickly for him. And either he sleeps better and doesn't snore anymore or I sleep better and just don't hear him!"

Thanks Sue for letting me know how you liked it.
